Ready for take-off!

Day 1

After weeks of anticipation and preparation, we have finally reached the day of departure. The bags are all packed, and we have our fingers crossed that nothing important has been forgotten.




In the first post, I mentioned one of the different types of fun. A topic we have talked about in our family is the concept of fun. The types of fun we have come up with are:
Type 1: Having fun, and knowing you are having fun
Type 2: When you are not having fun, but figuring out you had fun in retrospect
Type 3: Having fun by anticipating the fun
Type 4: Having fun in doing something no one else is crazy enough to do
Type 5: Having fun because you are watching other people have fun
Type 6: Having fun because other people are watching you have fun
Type 7: Having fun because of someone else's misery (especially siblings)
Type 8: Having fun when you realize you aren't going to die

***Oftentimes, multiple types of fun can apply to an adventure, especially the ones we embark upon. We anticipate having predominantly type 2, 4, 7, and 8 fun a lot this trip.

Now that you all have a new definition to the various types of fun, let us get back to the blog...
Before leaving, we took some "pre" shots - while both ourselves, and our gardens, are still looking nice and tidy. We shall see about that in a few weeks!



We have done a lot of work the past few weeks to get everything in the garden before leaving, and are hoping for the best until we get back.




Below is a picture of James hanging netting over one of our fruit trees to keep birds from eating all the berries before we get back.


 We are going to especially miss Fundy and Rae!

After hours of on and off traffic we arrived at the airport. Then, we boarded our flight and were ready for take-off!

6-17-2019 DAY 0 With one day left until we set off to the Pyrenees, there is much prep to be done. All bags are (mostly) packed thanks to my mom's detailed packing list, and now we are working on the final touches. One of the gear things we are working on is creating harness butt pads for canyoneering. They serve to protect both the harnesses, and our rears, when scooting down rough rocks.  Now, for those of you who may be new to our family's adventures, canyoneering is when one makes the crazy decision to embark on a journey down a canyon by using a variety of techniques, including repelling off of cliffs, swimming through questionable water, and scrambling through sometimes pretty tight places. Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home As much as travel is exciting, educational, interesting, and fun, there is no place like home. We could not wait to get back, especially to spend some time with Fundy and Rae. Even though we got home after dark, we raced out to the garden to see how it did during our absence. All in all, this was one EPIC trip - not too shabby for a 20th anniversary celebration for my parents. We decided that some families go on vacation or holiday. Our family goes on "trips" which generally includes ample type 2 fun. Trips like these inherently have stressful moments where we have to depend on each other. We talked about how each of us played an important and indispensable role on this adventure: My Mom : Chief Communicator and Planner. She did most of the planning for this trip and we relied on her for her Spanish and French skills. My Dad : Adventure Guide. Llech and Old Friends

7-01-2019 DAY 13 We departed the Carcassonne apartment this morning and headed towards Gorges du Llech. This canyon was our final canyon and we approached it with a little trepidation. The canyon itself is only 1/4 mile, but there are 21 waterfalls that have different approaches such as repels, water slides, jumps, slides to jumps, etc.   There is no water park in the world that can match the amazing thrill of a canyoning excursion and  t he   Gorges du Llech canyon  did not  disappoint. Considered by many as   almost a water park   because of the number of slides and numerous natural pools, the canyon is possibly one of the best canyons in the eastern Pyrenees. We found the parking lot, gathered up our gear and hit the trail for the canyon - we're getting much faster at this process.
